This antler hat is a newborn baby photo prop designed for photographic studios. It is also meant for parents, who want to make newborn shoots of their little ones really unique. I made this woodland deer hat in wet felting technique, without any sewing. It consists of superfine merino wool, so it is durable and allergen free. Wool has a very nice texture and is soft and friendly to the babies skin. As it is a handmade item, there are no two hats alike (the hat you get may differ slightly from the one in the pictures). You can use this baby photo prop in your studio or during outdoor shoots. It will look lovely in nature or on some woodland backdrops. It can be also used as a photo booth accessory. As a newborn baby photo prop, this hat is designed to fit a newborn’s head. I made my pictures on a felted ball with a circumference of 38,5 cm (15.2 in) – this is the size of babies heads in the age of 1-2 months.
If you need any customization, please let me know before you place your order. There are also other woodland hats available in my store, e.g. acorn hat, toadstool hat and chestnut hat. You can see them in the fourth picture. They all look beautiful with felted leaf mats, that you can find in my shop as well. If you decide to order many props for your studio, you can contact me for a discount.
Newborn baby photo prop safety note
This baby hat contains long fibers and is for photographic purposes only. Do not leave newborns alone with it and make sure they do not put it into their mouths.
How to care about felted handicraftMerino does not need to be washed as often as other types of wool. However, you may want to refresh it from time to time. Felted accessories and jewelry keep their colors and shape if hand washed gently in warm water. Here is a detailed instruction on how to care about them (we enclose it in every shipment as well):
- Wash your felt handicraft manually at about 30 Celsjus degrees using washing agents for wool.
- Dip them gently, but do not rub - otherwise they may shrink or deform.
- After washing, rinse your felt item with water of the same temperature, preferably with a rinsing liquid for wool.
- Do not wring or twist felt - remove the excess water with your hands using a towel.
- Spread out washed accessories on a towel to let them dry.
- If necessary iron your felt item using 'wool' mode or applying a low temperature.

Take a look behind the scenes
They are natural fibers collected from flax plants. Although they are thicker than silk fibers, they also look pretty cool on felted background.
This technique is pretty similar to wet felting but items you create are more lightweight. You can make nuno felt using silk, linen or other fabric with open weave – just remember to make a mess!
They are all natural silk fibers obtained from the cocoons of silkworms feeding on mulberry leaves. They look like fiber lightnings that reflect sunbeams.
In wet felting process you use some water to make wool fibers wet. With this watering can I am able to pour it quickly and efficiently.
