This chestnut hat is a newborn photo prop designed for photographic studios. It is also meant for parents, who want to make photo shoots of their little ones really unique. I made this baby photograpy hat in wet felting technique, without any sewing. It consists of superfine merino wool, so it is durable and allergen free. Wool has a very nice texture and is soft and friendly to the babies skin. As it is a handmade item, there are no two hats alike (the hat you get may differ slightly from the one in the pictures).
You can use this chestnut hat in your studio or during outdoor shoots. It will look lovely in nature or on some woodland backdrops. It can be also used as a photo booth accessory. As a newborn photo prop, this woodland baby hat fits a newborn head. I made my pictures on a felted ball with a circumference of 38,5 cm (15.2 in) – this is the size of babies heads in the age of 1-2 months.
If you need any customization, please let me know before you place your order. There are also other woodland hats available in my store, e.g. toadstool hat, deer hat and acorn hat. You can see them in the fourth picture. They all look beautiful with felted leaf mats, that you can find in my shop as well. If you decide to order many props for your studio, you can contact me for a discount.
Newborn photo prop safety note
This baby hat contains long fibers and is for photographic purposes only. Do not leave newborns alone with it and make sure they do not put it into their mouths.
How to care about felted handicraftMerino does not need to be washed as often as other types of wool. However, you may want to refresh it from time to time. Felted accessories and jewelry keep their colors and shape if hand washed gently in warm water. Here is a detailed instruction on how to care about them (we enclose it in every shipment as well):
- Wash your felt handicraft manually at about 30 Celsjus degrees using washing agents for wool.
- Dip them gently, but do not rub - otherwise they may shrink or deform.
- After washing, rinse your felt item with water of the same temperature, preferably with a rinsing liquid for wool.
- Do not wring or twist felt - remove the excess water with your hands using a towel.
- Spread out washed accessories on a towel to let them dry.
- If necessary iron your felt item using 'wool' mode or applying a low temperature.

Take a look behind the scenes
Delicate wool fibers and our hands need to be protected with a soap made of natural olive oils. It makes our products longer lasting and skin-friendly.
Wet felting is just rubbing wool fibers with your own hands. You had better go to the gym and exercise your muscles before you even start! Nothing can help more than strong arms.
Needle felting is the most laborious and the most precise way of making felt. It is perfect whenever you work on a detail and want to control wool down to the smallest fiber.
My hands are nimble tools ensuring constant control over the quality of my works. When you touch one of my products it is like we shake hands and exchange smiles.
